Wolf gods, fox gods, mountain gods
There is a haiku in her hair and
there are ghosts in her eyes,
tracing the sentences of criminal steps
through the aisles of Walmarts and K-marts;
and wasn't it a good time to clutch
that wrinkled t-shirt to her chest.
There are gods in her eyes,
wolf gods - fox gods - mountain gods -
they eat the steps of men who
tread on these most holy grounds;
these are old men and young men
holding their wrinkled hands to her chest.
They hold their hands to her chest,
they hold their hands to her chest,
but there are gods in her eyes
and they eat the steps of men who
tread on these most holy grounds.
Wolf gods - fox gods - mountain gods -
tear the limbs and rip the flesh of
men who tread on these most holy grounds,
break the spines and blind the eyes of
men who tread on these most holy grounds.
I am wolf gods - fox gods - mountain gods -
I eat the steps of men who
tread on these most holy grounds.
