100x450 - 38 - the irresistible force of your fire

One hundred people had been invited to the barbecue but only thirty showed up. I spent an hour making small talk, and then there were six of us standing there, debating about the lack of a fire in the fire pit.

None of us were experts but we all had something to say on why the fire wasn't going. I touched a log out of curiosity; it seared the skin of my fingertips to its surface, leaving raw blisters behind.

The touch lasted five seconds but it felt like four months.

This is the irresistible force of an unseen fire.
