100x450 - 35 - everyone is allowed some small superficiality

There was an accident involving chemicals and fires and when I woke up, everything was dark, but there were tubes trailing like fiberoptic cable from my cheeks, my forehead, my mouth. I could not move at all, nor could I speak. Later I learned that I had sustained fourth-degree burns to most of my face, but in the words of the doctors I was lucky that my eyes had not been damaged. But maybe I would have been better off without vision; maybe then I would never have looked in the mirror and seen what a monster I had become.
